THE STAR OF EXPORTS WITH 140 PERCENT INCREASE: TURKISH SALMON

As the Turkish aquaculture sector, we have been one of the star sectors of exports in Türkiye since the beginning of the 2000s. In the last ten years, with a % 252 increase we made our 465 million dollars export to 1 billion 465 million dollars. With the mention increase, Turkish aquaculture sector be a major part of Turkish fishery and animal product sector with a %40 share. Aegean region area exported 1 billion 637 million dollar fishery products which is took a %66 share in Türkiye’s fishery exports in 2022.

 

In 2022, the most fishery products exported to Russia with a 297 billion dollars. After the Russia, countries to which we exported the most fisheries are Italy with 178 million dollars, United Kingdom with 158 million dollars.

Fish is still produced in Türkiye both by hunting and by fish farms. Today, if the consumer can find and consume products such as sea bass, sea bream and trout for 12 months of the year at high quality and affordable prices, this is thanks to aquaculture. Mainly sea bass, sea bream, trout Turkish Salmon and tuna are exported from our country as fresh and chilled, frozen whole or fillet and also smoked. Apart from these, many aquatic products are exported, including mollusks and crustaceans.

This year, we exported 70 thousand tons of sea bream, 64 thousand tons of sea bass, 48 thousand tons of Turkish salmon, 19 thousand tons of trout and which make the biggest contribution to our aquaculture exports to more than 100 countries.

 

Besides the area that Norway and Chile in the world market with an average annual export share of 300 million dollars in Turkish salmon, Türkiye has also taken its place in the world market with our exports mostly to Russia, Vietnam and Japan.

 

Developed as a result of the R&D studies of the Turkish aquaculture industry in recent years and being more delicious and satisfying than Norwegian Salmon, last year being exported to 45 countries with an increase of 132 percent and provided an export input of 345 million dollars to our country. The average export price of Turkish salmon, which was $4,73 in 2020, increased by 25% in 2021 to $5.78, and in 2022 increased by 25% to $7.1. Thanks to the omega 3 storehouse Turkish salmon, the salmon imported from Norway also decreased.

 

Thanks to all these devoted works we have done on behalf of aquaculture sector, we expect to reach our export target of 1.850 billion American dollars for 2023 which is the 100th anniversary of our Republic.
