All Sectors of Russia's Fishing Industry Gather Again in St. Petersburg

On 22–24 October, for the eighth time, Russia will hold the country’s biggest fishery industry congress and expo event – the Global Fishery Forum & Seafood Expo Russia. Every year, the Forum&Expo brings together fishery experts from Russia and abroad at a venue in St. Petersburg.

All Sectors of Russia's Fishing Industry Gather Again in St. Petersburg
18 Ocak 2025 - 18:32
In 2024, the event gathered 19,367 industry professionals from 83 Russian regions and 76 other countries, offering space to 423 companies from the 83 Russian regions and 13 other countries to exhibit their products and services.

Great Opportunities for Türkiye
A holistic approach to development of the industry is a unique feature of the Global Fishery Forum & Seafood Expo Russia. Every year, the event introduces visitors to ways of handling the key challenges in all branches of the fishery industry, from fish catching and farming to delivering final products to end customers. This proven approach offers growth opportunities not only for fishery companies and aquaculture enterprises, but also for logistics and warehousing operators, traders, packaging producers, shipbuilders, retail operators, HoReCa service providers and representatives of other related sectors.
This is particularly important in the context of expanding the export capacity of the Russian fish and seafood industry to markets in Asia, Europe and Africa. Russia needs foreign partners to achieve this goal, and involvement of Turkish companies could play a key role both in providing relevant technologies and in building new cross-border supply chains.

Technologies for Unlocking the Huge Potential of Aquaculture
Aquaculture is a priority for development of Russia’s fishery sector. Russia has increased its aquaculture many times over during the last ten years, yet some factors have throttled this growth. To maintain stable growth and create new incentives for the sector’s development, this year the organizers will present a new concept for professional aquaculture and mariculture exhibition – Aqua Farm Global. A presentation of new rearing infrastructure projects, from small farms to large industrial clusters, will be a major highlight of the event’s programme.

While the global trend is to equalize the shares of wild and farmed fish, this ratio is currently 90/10 in Russia, with 90% of fish coming from sea and ocean fisheries. This imbalance is due not only to the vast quantities harvested by Russian fishermen, which are difficult to match through farming, but also to a lack of modern technologies already widely used by Turkish fish farmers.
This technology demand and the ambition of both countries toward joint development create new paths for win-win cooperation. Some vendors of fish breeding and rearing equipment from Türkiye already participated in the event last year: Asakua Su Urunleri Insaat Sanayi Ve Dis Ticaret Limited Sirketi, Kaptan Çelik Halat San. Tic. A.Ş., Yemmak, etc. Türkiye’s experience in aquaculture development can be instrumental in modernizing the Russian fishery industry. Successful engagement of Turkish companies highlights the prospects for technology transfer and expansion of joint projects.
Other crucial foreign suppliers to Russian aquaculture businesses at the Expo display were companies and professional associations from China, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, Kyrgyzstan and elsewhere.

Fishing and Processing Equipment Are in High Demand in Russia
The market offers both aquaculture equipment vendors and companies from other businesses segments operating in Türkiye opportunities for effective engagement. For exampe, ISTANBUL FISHERY AND ANIMAL PRODUCTS EXPORTERS’ ASSOCIATION is a regular participant in the Expo’s food sections. Vendors of equipment for ships, fishing, processing, storage, etc. could also take advantage of extensive opportunities.
Russia is continuing its ambitious campaign to renew the fleet and production capacities of the country’s fishery industry. The program for building modern ships and modernizing fish processing enterprises opens up the market for high-tech equipment vendors and encourages growth of local production capacities relying on foreign technologies. A number of companies from Türkiye, including BULUTLU MAKINE SAN. VE DIŞ TIC. A.Ş. and EVREN ZINCIR IMALAT MAKINE, attended the Expo’s specialized shipbuilding section last year.

Global Fishery Forum & Seafood Expo displays the sector’s achievements and constitutes a platform for seeking ways to handle global challenges. The event strengthens Russia’s standing as a global fishery leader, promoting sustainable growth and joint development in collaboration with foreign partners. Participation in the Forum offers a unique chance to share knowledge and find new business contacts in the global arena.
