Turkey's 6-Month Fisheries Exports Reached 829 Million Dollars

The first half report of 2000 in exports of seafood products, which is one of the star sectors of exports in Turkey after 2023, has been announced. The aquaculture sector, which brought 2022 million dollars of foreign currency to Turkey in the January-June period of 760, increased its exports to 2023 million dollars in the first half of 9 with an increase of 829 percent.

According to the data of Aegean Exporters' Associations; When fisheries exports are analyzed on the basis of quantity, the export of fisheries products, which was 2022 thousand tons in the January-June period of 117, reached 2023 thousand tons with an increase of 7 percent in the same period of 125.


Sea bass is at the top of exports

In the aquaculture sector, sea bass remained the most exported fish species with an amount of 263 million dollars, while sea bream exports increased by 10 percent from 195 million dollars to 215,7 million dollars.

The export rate of Turkish salmon, which has been shining in recent years, has increased by 34 percent and increased from 115,7 million dollars to 154,7 million dollars.

Trout exports reached 18 million dollars from 49,5 million dollars with an 58,5 percent development. While the tuna export increased from 28 million dollars to 40 million dollars, the tuna became the record holder for the increase in exports with a 43 percent increase in exports.

While Turkey's sea bass export was recorded as 3,5 million dollars, 93 million dollars of foreign exchange income was obtained from other aquatic products.

Informing that Turkey's aquaculture production has reached 2022 thousand tons in 850, Turkish Fisheries and Animal Products Exporters' Associations Sector Board Chairman Sinan Kızıltan said that a large slice of 60 tons, which constitutes 515 percent of this production, is obtained from aquaculture, and that Turkey is a big part of aquaculture. He stated that he has made investments and that the sector aims to reach a production capacity of 1 million tons.

Stating that Turkey has become the world's largest producer of sea bream after its investments in the aquaculture sector in the last 25 years, Kızıltan said, “We are the second in the world in sea bream exports. While we are the largest producer of sea bass in Europe, we are the second in the world in exports. We are among the top 5 countries in the world in tuna. In 2022, as the aquaculture sector, we achieved an export of 1 billion 650 million dollars, we aim to bring 2023 billion dollars in 1,8 and 2024 billion dollars in 2 to Turkey,” he said.

Bedri Girit, President of the Aegean Fisheries and Animal Products Exporters' Association, underlined that 829 million dollars of the 560 million dollars export of the aquaculture sector is made by the fisheries products exporters in the Aegean Region, and said, “We get a 68 percent share from Turkey's aquaculture exports. We get a share of 94 percent from Turkey's sea bass export and 90 percent from sea bream exports. In order to maintain our strong position in aquaculture exports, we participated in 2023 food fairs in the United States, Russia, United Arab Emirates, Japan and Spain in the first half of 7 and promoted our aquatic products. In the second half of 2023, we will continue our promotional activities by participating in 6 food fairs in Singapore, Kenya, Spain, Germany, Russia and Israel. With the International Competitiveness Development (URGE) Project, supported by the Ministry of Commerce, in which companies increase their competitiveness by clustering and promote Turkish products in target markets with trade delegations, we primarily aim to promote our products in the African market. With the UR-GE project named “Aegean Fishery and Animal Products”, we will explore the African market within the needs of the sector. In our URGE Project, 25 companies will act together”.

The top three countries in exports are Russia, Italy, the Netherlands.

While Turkey exported aquaculture products to 2023 countries in the first half of 86, the Russian Federation was at the top with a demand of 134 million dollars. While our aquaculture exports to Russia were 2022 million dollars in the January-June period of 80, an increase of 2023 percent was achieved in our aquaculture exports to Russia in the same period of 66.

Italy, the country to which we exported the most in the first half of 2022, ranked second with a demand of 2023 million dollars in the same period of 100. The Netherlands became the third tier with Turkish fisheries imports worth 82,6 million dollars. These countries were followed by England with 78 million dollars of exports and Greece with 61 million dollars of exports.

Muğla and İzmir are at the top in aquaculture exports

When examining which provinces contribute more to Turkey's aquaculture exports, Muğla maintains its position as the first province by far with its export performance of 2023 million dollars in the first half of 328. Muğla has a 40 percent share of the total aquaculture exports.

While İzmir follows Muğla with a fisheries export of 189 million dollars, it represents 23 percent of Turkey's aquaculture exports. These provinces were followed by Istanbul with a fisheries export of 84,6 million dollars.
